The dictionary Lexikon Moderne Mythen by the prestigious Metzler editorial has just hit the bookshelves, and my contribution about “the Wild West/ Cowboys and Indians” is included. I’ve tried to take a critical look at the mythical dimension of these tropes as well as their connection to the condition of modernity. Although it is arguable that, in the end, everything can end up being a “modern myth”, I find the idea of exploring some of these myths quite fascinating. If the form of a dictionary, which always conveys the idea of something finite, is the best to present these discussions might itself be worthy of a discussion.
